Independent living:
Most of these communities have studios, companion
rooms and apartments which housekeeping, meals and transportation are
provided in addition to many scheduled activities, excursions and live
entertainment on the premises.
Assisted Living:
In a large community, consisting of 50 up to 150
capacity, offer the same amenities as the Independent living in addition
to personal care fees which are added to the monthly costs of living.
Depending on the kind of care that is required, it may be a point system
or dollar amount extra each month. Personal Care fees may also decrease
when the resident is doing much better and able to handle a personal
care task independently.
There are smaller care homes for assisted living, capacity up to six
beds, which usually indicates that the resident requires more hands on
assistance with ambulation, transferring almost consistently. Most
smaller care homes (Residential Care Home For the Elderly). In addition,
most smaller care homes have both assisted and memory care in the same
home
Memory Care:
A person who has been diagnosed with Dementia/Alzheimer's
to the degree that it would be unsafe to allow them to live in a
assisted living apartment. Memory care units have sensors, and other
devices for tracking residents in the event of wandering. In addition,
capacity is usually smaller approximately 20-30 residents and can be in
either a large facility with its own separate unit, or a small care
home that would not exceed the capacity of six.
Larger communities will normally have all three Independent, Assisted
Living and Memory Care which would avoid the resident from moving out of
one home that only offered Independent Living and having to seek another
community when they reached the point of requiring ambulation assistance
or bathing assistance. A few smaller care homes will have assisted and
memory together and at times, a Independent resident as well but not
often.
